Viktoria Komova news

Viktoria is in the news in Russia at the moment.  There is this TV interview in which she discusses her injury, the future, and her team mates.  Can anyone translate?  https://youtu.be/kgKnkP-HY0g

Our kind Anonymous contributor tells me that Vika says she has "Š“рыŠ¶a Šø ŠæрŠ¾Ń‚Ń€ŃƒŠ·Šøя ŠæŠ¾Š·Š²Š¾Š½Š¾Ń‡Š½ŠøŠŗŠ°"  which I think means she has a herniated, or bulging, disc in her spine.  Ouch.

In an interview with Albert Starodubtsev, Valentina Rodionenko says that Viktoria is travelling to Munich on 20th July.  Viktoria says that if the doctors say they cannot help her, she will retire.

Other news

Maria Kharenkova is back training in Lake Krugloye, again thanks to Anonymous.  The 2014 European beam champion has been suffering leg pain.

I am also told by a private (unofficial) source that Tatiana Nabiyeva is back training on the national team again.  After her improved performances at Russia Cup, this is well deserved. (Thanks, Jared!)

Good luck to all the returning athletes!  Your efforts will be very important to the team.

  1. Hi
I got most of the interview, I had trouble with hearing the interview questions, but Vika's answers were clear. It took place before The Cup.
I am not leaving now ā€“ I need to restore my health and look further. Will continue if I am well.
If not ā€“ regretfully will have to leave (quit). All athletes have traumas, like hernia, protrusion. In my case, regretfully, it prevents from training. Treatment did not work, nothing worked. I had a trauma, and 6 months after the Olympics my back started hurting. My coach thought of it as the result of growth ā€“ height, weight. Protrusion must have been before. The back started hurting, and still hurts. Of course, we tried everything: manual therapy, acupuncture, shots, and regretfully, nothing worked.
I will work out the trip to Germany. They will look there and may suggest treatment

We have our own Gela Milinkovic, she is very well prepared; also Sedan, a very good athlete. Dashka Spiridonova, World Bar Champion. A very good gymnast.
I am going to the Russia Cup, look at everyone, had not seen them for a long time, hope they added on (improved). Of course, watching gymnastics. When I came to Penza, they sent hello, a card.
We miss each other ā€“ so many years together, now in different places. I will go and support as much as I cane.
Now I am finishing up college, one more year. Thinking of coaching. Now honestly, not thinking about it- letā€™s say I was not ready for this. May be I will coach, but worried will not be able to do well. I have Avery good coach who will help with advice.

I look at everyone ā€“ some for artistry, elegance, beauty. It was our strength, but Americans had jumps and were strong. Yes, gymnastics has a lot of difficult moves.
Yes, made mistakes. The vault in the Olympic did not come out. I would have returned and stopped paying attention to sores and fought f or the medals, Forgive everyone, but my health is more important. In my career, I did a lot, now is the time to take care of my health.
_ If they take me, of course I will go (presumably to Rio) to cheer for the girls.
Now with everyone happiness and health.
    Hope this helps.

Russian Gymnastics Federation withdraws AIN athletes from competition

An official announcement, via VK.  Google translate. Official statement of the Russian Gymnastics Federation All Russian athletes representing artistic and rhythmic gymnastics, who received "neutral status", decided to refrain from participating in the upcoming competitions under the auspices of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG). The reason for this decision is the numerous unfounded and biased refusals of the FIG special committee to allow our gymnasts to compete. The Russian Gymnastics Federation respects and shares the position of the athletes. President of the Russian Gymnastics Federation Oleg Belozerov: "I respect the athletes' decision and understand what it is dictated by. At our meeting on March 10, Mr. Watanabe said that "I would like to use all my strength to once again think about the role of sport in this world. Sport should unite and give friendship, it should not be a tool for increasing hatred. The rights of every person must be resp...

Via VK.com.  Google translate A big interview with Aliya Mustafina was published on MATCH!. We provide a small excerpt below, and the full version is available on the website at the link below  ā“ Aliya, you are now the head coach of the junior artistic gymnastics team. What does your typical day look like? šŸ’œ My current life is similar to what it was when I was competing. In the morning, I have breakfast and go to work by 9:00, we train for four hours, have lunch, rest and train for another three hours. During the training camp, the athletes live at the base. They live and train on the same territory. ā“ Do you manage the gymnasts' personal trainers or do you evenly distribute the responsibilities? šŸ’œ We work in contact with the personal trainers, I listen to their opinions. For example, if the trainer believes that their athlete needs to be given a little rest or do fewer repetitions of a particular exercise, we do so. ā“ Describe the current generation of children. Do they nee...

The tragic end for Russian gymnastics

Russian gymnasticsā€™ recent decision to withdraw its neutral athletes from international competition, as a protest over some offence or other, is highly uncharacteristic.   Only a few weeks ago, Russia was welcoming FIG President Watanabe into its gymnastics homes, with smiles and hugs exchanged at the highest level.   The gymnasts, including especially Angelina Melnikova, have been training assiduously for a return to the international arena.   There have been excited announcements of the names of those returning to our world of gymnastics.   Russian gymnastics has always been friendly, international and diplomatic.   Good sportsmanship is required of athletes and is generally shown, with a few notable exceptions.   During the depths of the Cold War, Russiaā€™s teams toured the world, staging friendship displays and offering workshops and training.   Russian officials have been at the heart of the sportā€™s governance since the early 1990s and e...
