Elena Eremina coaching in Saudi Arabia

Coach Vera Kiryashova speaks of Elena Eremina’s new life as a coach in Saudi Arabia.   Via TASS/vk.com.  Google translate Russian Elena Eremina, winner of silver and bronze at the 2017 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, has moved to Saudi Arabia, where she now works as a coach at one of the local gymnastics clubs. Eremina's personal coach Vera Kiryashova told TASS about this. 💬"Lena has been working in Saudi Arabia since February. She signed a contract with one of the local clubs, where she trains both girls of different ages and adults," Kiryashova said. "She has a work visa, Lena can travel with her gymnasts to competitions and training camps around the world. Of course, she shared her impressions of working there with me. In principle, everything is going well for Lena, despite the fact that there are certain specifics in working with local athletes. She is already planning to bring her gymnasts to Russia, to our training camp in Pushkin." 💬"Arti...

Elena Eremina asks for help for her gymnastics school

World and European champion gymnast Elena Eremina, 16. Elena, and her team mates Lilia Akhaimova, Valeria Saifuluna and Tatiana Nabiyeva, all hail from St Petersburg where they train together under the same roof with world class coaches such as Alexander and Vera Kiryashov. Their predecessors include Olympic champions such as Elena Shushunova, Elena Davydova and Alexander Detyatin Now, it seems, the club is experiencing some problems - their facilities at a 'new' gym are very poor - no pit, they are landing on concrete floors, the apparatus are old, and there isn't enough space for a busy gym with lots of children.   The big problem is that the local St Petersburg admin refuses to help with the refurbishment of the gym.  So Elena, via her Instagram account, is asking us to post and repost her message explaining the situation.   This is a recurring theme in Russia at the moment as we take on board the surprising decision to close the gym in Leninsk-Kuznetsk.  I hope t...

Elena Eremina - straight Tkachev

Eremina in 2016 St Petersburg has a tradition of great gymnastics - from 1980 and 1988 Olympic Champions Alexander Detiatin and Elena Shushunova, to this year's Junior European Champion, Elena Eremina via  World Champion Tatiana Nabiyeva and European beam champion Evgenia Kuznetsova. And we shouldn't forget St Petersburg as a home of great innovation.  Elena Shushunova's half blind change to Markelov was astonishing in its time.  And then, we come to possibly my favourite single gymnastics element - the straight Tkachev, which Nabiyeva performed at the 2010 World Championships. The legacy and heritage continues, and now 14 year old Elena Eremina is practicing the same skill in training.  You can see a video of this at her coach, Vera Kiryashova's Instagram account ( https://instagram.com/p/BGsMgtNnqSk/ ).  Vera and her husband Alexander also coached Tatiana Nabiyeva. Birthday Champions from St Petersburg- Alexander Detiatin and Elena Davydova

It had somehow escaped my attention that yesterday was the birthday of two Olympic Champions from Moscow, 1980 - Alexander Detiatin and Elena Davydova.  Happy Birthday to both of these amazing gymnasts! Alexander Detiatin had competed at the Olympics in Montreal in 1976 as part of the Soviet Union's plan to begin to challenge the unbeatable Japanese team.  National coach Leonid Arkayev had faith in him as one of a new generation of ambitious young men, and his plans first came to fruition with a gold in the team event in the 1979 World Championships, the USSR's first since 1958.  Detiatin also made his mark, taking first in the all around competition.  His victory here asserted his leadership of the Soviet team, an incredible feat considering his team mates included such legends as Nikolai Andrianov and Alexander Tkachev.   Then in 1980, he became an international legend when he won the Olympic all around title. Like Detiatin, Elena Davydova was one ...

Daria Skrypnik leads Europe's Youth in Tbilisi

Daria Skrypnik became the standout individual gymnast today at the European Youth Olympics, taking a medal in every event - gold in team, all around and bars, bronze on beam and silver on vault and floor.  In fact the Russian girls did very well, with every single gymnast earning a medal besides her team gold - Eremina a bronze on vault, and Ilyankova bronze in the all around and bars.  An emerging team in this competition were Belgium and in particular rising star Axelle Klinckaert, who won both golds on this final day, on beam and floor, as well as the silver in the all around (very close - tie break with Skrypnik). In the men's event, I think it is fair to say that Britain had the upper hand, taking the team gold.  Their leader was Joe Fraser who won the AA and parallel bars gold.  Hamish Carter took silver on floor behind team mate Gianni Regini-Moran.  It was quite a surprise, given his team's record on the piece, when Russia's elegant Alexander Sychugov wo...
