Updated - Nanning World Gymnastics Championships 2014 - BBC TV coverage

Yay!  First news available now of the BBC TV coverage of the Nanning Championships.  Starting on Tuesday 7th October at 3.00 pm until 5.15 pm BST, BBC2 will be covering the men's team final.  Gymnastics will be covered at the same time every day of that week.  Still waiting to hear what the weekend schedule will be.

Given the time difference between Nanning and London it looks as though this is delayed live coverage of the events.  If there is further news about live red button coverage I will update this page.

Further live coverage of event finals has now been confirmed :

BBC1 on Saturday 11th October, 2.20 to 3.50pm
BBC2 on Sunday 12th October, 4.00 to 5.30pm

Red button coverage begins at 12pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and 12.35 on Friday.  Saturday and Sunday times yet to be published.

In the United States, USAGymWorlds.com also has live streaming of podium training and qualifications. This coverage is exclusive to the USA unless you can find IP protection.  Times are US eastern.

Does anyone know if there will be live streaming available anywhere?  Please leave any broadcast information you have in the comments - this will be helpful to everyone, particularly those in territories not covered by the BBC.

Nastiafan has produced these useful schedule summaries so you can follow all the fun.  The times given in the schedule below are local to Nanning.

The official website is here, although the English language version is not yet complete.  But there is a countdown clock!  Exciting to see how soon the competition is!  http://en.nanning2014gymnastics.com/

  1. USAG always does a live feed of PT, TF, EF. But i know this is geoblocked so if you know this is a problem every year please use a IP address changer from now. Look around and find a good one so you're not panicking the day of competition.

  2. Here are details of the stateside livestream of podium training and quals, courtesy of USAgymworld.com :

    Dear Gymnastics Fansā€¦
    Dear gymnastics fans,

Last year, we delivered live webcasts from the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Antwerp. It was the first time ā€“ as far as I can remember ā€“ that live coverage of podium training or qualification had ever been available in the United States.

We want to once again deliver live coverage of both podium training and qualification from 2014 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Nanning, China. The biggest challenge in delivering this kind of coverage is going into a venue that we are unfamiliar with and working out any issues we may encounter.

Why am I telling you this? First, so that (hopefully) youā€™ll bear with us as we navigate any technical issues we may run into ā€“ this will be especially important during podium training. And second, so you can plan. Hereā€™s the schedule of sessions we hope to stream from Nanning:

    Sept. 30
    5-7:15 a.m. ET ā€“ Menā€™s Podium Training, Sub. 9

    Oct. 1
    6-7:45 a.m. ET ā€“ Womenā€™s Podium Training, Sub. 5

    Oct. 3
    2:30-4:45 a.m. ET ā€“ Menā€™s Qualifying, Sub. 3 (China)
    8-10:15 a.m. ET ā€“ Menā€™s Qualifying, Sub. 5 (Great Britain)
    11:30 p.m. ā€“ 1:45 a.m. ET ā€“ Menā€™s Qualifying, Sub. 7 (Japan)

    Oct. 4
    5-7:15 a.m. ET ā€“ Menā€™s Qualifying, Sub. 9 (USA)
    9-10:45 p.m. ET ā€“ Womenā€™s Qualifying, Sub. 1 (Russia)

    Oct. 5
    6-7:45 a.m. ET ā€“ Womenā€™s Qualifying, Sub. 5 (USA)
    11 p.m. ā€“ 12:45 a.m. ET ā€“ Womenā€™s Qualifying, Sub. 8 (China)

    Oct. 6
    3:30-5:15 a.m. ET ā€“ Womenā€™s Qualifying, Sub. 10 (Romania, Great Britain)

Live coverage of the medal rounds will be available once again through our partnership with Universal Sports. Fans will be able to watch a feed on USAGymWorlds.com, for free and without authentication, beginning at 7 a.m. ET on Oct. 7 with the menā€™s team final.

One note, as the United States rights holders for the Worlds, all of our coverage will only be available stateside.

  3. Hi Queen Elizabeth, it looks like it has been updated in that the US does plan to cover live feeds of each of the WAG qualifying sessions that has a major team to focus on, so this includes the first session with Russia! For anyone not stateside that knows how to use a different IP to get access I hope everyone gets to watch and that the info they provided is correct! fingers crossed =)

  4. Feed geoblocking by USA Gymnastics is a real disgrace. Could they explain how that would hurt anybody's business if they authorised gymnastics videos all around the world ?
    This is so stupid...

    1. This won't be USA Gymnastics' decision. Whoever assigns broadcast rights (be it the FIG, the local organising committee or whoever) will not want to give away exclusive worldwide streaming rights in case other bodies or institutions come forward, wanting to transmit in ither territories. It is a simple matter of money making.

I share your sense of frustration, however, that these broadcasts are nit made available to us legitimately, worldwide. As a ling time fan I would be happy to pay the FIG a modest subscription to secure access to online streaming of podium training, quals, and World Cup competitions that are nit covered in my territory. Surely such an arrangement can't be far off?

ā€˜My daughter likes gymnastics. For us, this is the big successā€™. Aliya Mustafina talks to Match TV

Via VK.com.  Google translate A big interview with Aliya Mustafina was published on MATCH!. We provide a small excerpt below, and the full version is available on the website at the link below  ā“ Aliya, you are now the head coach of the junior artistic gymnastics team. What does your typical day look like? šŸ’œ My current life is similar to what it was when I was competing. In the morning, I have breakfast and go to work by 9:00, we train for four hours, have lunch, rest and train for another three hours. During the training camp, the athletes live at the base. They live and train on the same territory. ā“ Do you manage the gymnasts' personal trainers or do you evenly distribute the responsibilities? šŸ’œ We work in contact with the personal trainers, I listen to their opinions. For example, if the trainer believes that their athlete needs to be given a little rest or do fewer repetitions of a particular exercise, we do so. ā“ Describe the current generation of children. Simone and the others - results and reflections

In the end, it was as predicted : Simone and the others, with Simone's teammate, Alexandra Raisman, providing the back up.  I do not need to point out that, by definition, the Americans are scoring significantly higher marks than the rest of the field.  Congratulations to them! Aliya Mustafina finished in third place.  The 2012 bronze medalist led the competition after vault and uneven bars, but had a very nervous outing on beam that might have taken a less experienced gymnast out of the medals.  A bravura performance on floor brought Aliya back though to confirm her third place all around.  From her senior debut in 2010 to today, Mustafina has continuously set high standards of grace.    It is the first time since 2000 that a gymnast (Amanar) has medalled in the all around at two consecutive Olympics, and  if Aliya can medal on Saturday's uneven bars final, she will once again be Russia's biggest medal winner of the women's gymnastics.  Russ...

Svetlana Boginskaya: I was always a bitch* in gymnastics

Svetlana Boginskaya, 15 years old, with her medals from the Seoul Olympics Nico translates the latest interview with gymnastics legend Svetlana Boginskaya, during a recent visit to her home country of Belarus. Svetlana Boginskaya: I was always a bitch* in gymnastics, so now I ask for forgiveness from everyone who came in contact with me. The National Olympic Committee of Belarus held a press conference with three-time Olympic Champion in artistic gymnastics, Svetlana Boginskaya. The meeting was devoted to the 25th anniversary of the Olympic Games in Seoul. In South Korea the Belarussian won two gold medals in the team competition and vault. As a gift to the Olympic Hall of fame, the famous gymnast, now living in the United States, donated one of her trophies that she won at the 1990 European Championships and a pennant for Best Female Athlete of the USSR in 1989. How happy we were when we could share with such stars as Boginskaya, Scherbo, and Ivankov,...
