Russia Cup - to stream or not to stream, that is the question

There is a notice on the RGF website saying that live streaming is cancelled for technical reasons, but we cannot establish whether this is temporary or will be resolved in time for today's WAG competition.

I'm providing here the link direct to the live streaming page - there is still a screen there, with some minimalistic animation, so maybe we will be lucky.  Keep all your fingers and toes crossed.

If I were not in meetings all day today, I would check regularly and update.  I'm worried that the link may change and people will miss out.  By all means, do go to www.sportgymrus.ru and make sure there is no new information throughout the day.

Don't forget the schedule - as follows.  All times are Moscow times (thanks Ksenia)

Wednesday, 13th June: WAG Team Final and qualifications - competition begins at 14.45 (first round) and 16.30 (second round) and ends at 18.00

Thursday, 14th June: MAG AA

Friday, 15th June: WAG AA (16.30-18.30)

Saturday 16th June: MAG and WAG EF

  1. There has been a change to the program:

The competition continues today with the womenā€™s team competition at 4:45 pm local time. As opposed to the original schedule there will be only one flight. (from the all around forum: http://the-all-around.com/2012/06/13/russian-cup-khorokhordin-leads-after-qualification/ )

  3. I am bothered by some comment done on one blog

"They need a fifth all arounder because Grishina has a sore foot, its likely that sheā€™s not gonna be all arounder anymore (knock on wood) and Ksenia Afan has an ankle injury too."

Is that true? That Grishina will not do all events and thats why she is not compete for real in Penza ?

    1. All any blog or forum poster can do is speculate - until the Russian team confirms its composition and actually turns up in London on the 21st July. There has, to my knowledge, been no official information on Grishina's health, and the Russians do not have to give us full information on their gymnasts all the time.

I do not know how severe her injury is - it may not in fact be an injury, may just be a sore foot. All gymnasts have to contend with pain at different times. Fingers crossed that it is nothing too serious.

It looks to me as though Afanasyeva is well on the road to recovery.

  5. It seems to me that all the blogs have math issues. If you add up the scores, it's not Aliya but Vika who leads the competition by approx. 0.1

ā€˜My daughter likes gymnastics. For us, this is the big successā€™. Aliya Mustafina talks to Match TV

Via VK.com.  Google translate A big interview with Aliya Mustafina was published on MATCH!. What does your typical day look like? šŸ’œ My current life is similar to what it was when I was competing. In the morning, I have breakfast and go to work by 9:00, we train for four hours, have lunch, rest and train for another three hours. During the training camp, the athletes live at the base. They live and train on the same territory. ā“ Do you manage the gymnasts' personal trainers or do you evenly distribute the responsibilities? šŸ’œ We work in contact with the personal trainers, I listen to their opinions. For example, if the trainer believes that their athlete needs to be given a little rest or do fewer repetitions of a particular exercise, we do so. ā“ Describe the current generation of children. Simone and the others - results and reflections

In the end, it was as predicted : Simone and the others, with Simone's teammate, Alexandra Raisman, providing the back up.  I do not need to point out that, by definition, the Americans are scoring significantly higher marks than the rest of the field.  Congratulations to them! Aliya Mustafina finished in third place.  The 2012 bronze medalist led the competition after vault and uneven bars, but had a very nervous outing on beam that might have taken a less experienced gymnast out of the medals.  A bravura performance on floor brought Aliya back though to confirm her third place all around.  From her senior debut in 2010 to today, Mustafina has continuously set high standards of grace.    It is the first time since 2000 that a gymnast (Amanar) has medalled in the all around at two consecutive Olympics, and  if Aliya can medal on Saturday's uneven bars final, she will once again be Russia's biggest medal winner of the women's gymnastics.  Russ...

Svetlana Boginskaya: I was always a bitch* in gymnastics

Svetlana Boginskaya, 15 years old, with her medals from the Seoul Olympics Nico translates the latest interview with gymnastics legend Svetlana Boginskaya, during a recent visit to her home country of Belarus.
