Russia Cup - to stream or not to stream, that is the question

There is a notice on the RGF website saying that live streaming is cancelled for technical reasons, but we cannot establish whether this is temporary or will be resolved in time for today's WAG competition.

I'm providing here the link direct to the live streaming page - there is still a screen there, with some minimalistic animation, so maybe we will be lucky.  Keep all your fingers and toes crossed.

If I were not in meetings all day today, I would check regularly and update.  I'm worried that the link may change and people will miss out.  By all means, do go to www.sportgymrus.ru and make sure there is no new information throughout the day.

Don't forget the schedule - as follows.  All times are Moscow times (thanks Ksenia)


Wednesday, 13th June: WAG Team Final and qualifications - competition begins at 14.45 (first round) and 16.30 (second round) and ends at 18.00

Thursday, 14th June: MAG AA

Friday, 15th June: WAG AA (16.30-18.30)

Saturday 16th June: MAG and WAG EF

Begins at 14.00, ends at 16.15.  First day's competition appears to be :
men : Floor, PH, HB; women : vault and uneven bars.

Sunday, 17th June: MAG and WAG EF

Begins at 13.00, ends at 17.00.
Men: Rings, Vault, Parallel Bars; women : beam, floor

    There has been a change to the program:

    The competition continues today with the women’s team competition at 4:45 pm local time. As opposed to the original schedule there will be only one flight. (from the all around forum: http://the-all-around.com/2012/06/13/russian-cup-khorokhordin-leads-after-qualification/ )

    I am bothered by some comment done on one blog

    "They need a fifth all arounder because Grishina has a sore foot, its likely that she’s not gonna be all arounder anymore (knock on wood) and Ksenia Afan has an ankle injury too."

    Is that true? That Grishina will not do all events and thats why she is not compete for real in Penza ?

      All any blog or forum poster can do is speculate - until the Russian team confirms its composition and actually turns up in London on the 21st July. There has, to my knowledge, been no official information on Grishina's health, and the Russians do not have to give us full information on their gymnasts all the time.

      I do not know how severe her injury is - it may not in fact be an injury, may just be a sore foot. All gymnasts have to contend with pain at different times. Fingers crossed that it is nothing too serious.

      It looks to me as though Afanasyeva is well on the road to recovery.

    It seems to me that all the blogs have math issues. If you add up the scores, it's not Aliya but Vika who leads the competition by approx. 0.1

Aliya Mustafina - 'I'm just trying to stay healthy'

A brief interview with the World and Olympic Champion from All Sport is summarised below. Russian national gymnastics continues to prepare for the World Championships, which will be held October 3-12 in Nanning (China). Olympic champion Aliya Mustafina told Mary Staroverova about her health and about preparations for the competition. - In June, I went to Germany to solve the problem with my ankle.  I had a small operation to clean the joints of a build-up of bone particles.  Nothing serious was evident, and the operation went well.  Now I have to tumble.  But there is still some discomfort, a slight pain at full load, and I can not tumble at full force.  For the time being, I try to go easy on my legs.  After the Russia Cup I will have to fully prepare for Worlds. 'Mustafina is no longer in pain' - Valentina Rodionenko

Picture of Aliya Mustafina, courtesy of RGF Valentina Rodionenko has provided some updates on the Russian teams and how their preparation for Worlds (Nanning, China, 3 to 12 October) is progressing, via Allsports (http://www.allsportinfo.ru/index.php?id=84328) - The teams are now at camp in Italy, in two small towns close to Milan, by the sea, where the girls travelled on 29th June and the men on 1 July.  The athletes aren't only training, they can also relax. - Komova is working out at Round Lake, she didn't go to Italy.  We will see how she does at the Russia Cup, which will be held late August in Penza. Tatiana Nabiyeva is looking good in training and the other girls are also working.  Ksenia Afanasyeva won't have time to prepare for Worlds, and Anastasia Grishina's participation is also in doubt, we just don't know if she will qualify for the team.   We have hopes for Aliya Mustafina.  As always, she is our number one.  It would be great if there were t...
