- In individual finals, I went to the all-around, uneven bars and possibly the floor exercise - said Aliya Mustafina. - In the freestyle I have the best result in the team, but it is not clear what points will gain athletes from other countries.

- How to evaluate its shape compared with the Olympic Games in London?
- 55 per cent. If now it was 100, then the curve would go down, and began to decline. It is better to get in shape than ever to support it.

- Russian Debutante team Seda Tuhtalyan able to bypass you and Viktoiyu com on the Balance Beam. This surprised?
- Seda - umnichka. I did not expect that it will perform well enough. She has a very strong performance on the balance beam. And she knows how to gather important competition, and this is most important. This test she passed.

- And how do you address Victoria Komova?
- Vic did not speak for a long time, so now the main thing for her - that was not falling. In principle, it is important for all of us. To be able not to lose is more important, and the error is still time to correct. I am sure that Vick prepare well for the World Cup 2015 and the Olympic Games-2016.

- For the other girls from the team suffered greatly when they act?
- If you stand and wait for their turn, do not feel fear for others. And if everything is already finished, and then stand and watch as the girls do exercises - then yes, it is experiential.

- Watch out for other sports in the European games?
- We do not have a TV in the room, so the next is not yet possible (laughs). When will all of our performances in the tournament, probably fetch someone to cheer.

Seda Tuhtalyan: on a log I have a good chance of gold in the vault will try to get into the "top three"

Today, June 15, at the first European Games in Baku (Azerbaijan) continues Gymnastics Tournament. Women held qualifying competitions in the floor exercise and balance beam. Russia's Seda Tuhtalyan for floor exercises got 13,600 points for the exercises on the balance beam - 14,600. The impressions Seda Tuhtalyan shared with special correspondent for the press-service DSP Mark Skoda. Agency of the sports information "All Sport" quoted Sedu Tuhtalyan.
- Today I have more sophisticated proscale and score higher than yesterday - said Seda Tuhtalyan. - I was able to qualify for the finals in vault and balance beam. In these kinds I could add great compared to last year. Bars my weaknesses, and in the floor exercise is necessary to build a program. It should be well in the finals, and then you can think about how to get to the World Cup and there is fight in the all-around.
- Around - your priority?
- Need to work on each type, then the result will turn out and around. I think that it is easier to win the all-around - just pass all the shells without thinking. Razmalsya - made, he warmed - made, and the team on the three shells a day responsibility and heavier.
- Do you know about the interest Larissa Latynina to your performances?
- First time I've heard. Actually my idol - Lenka Zamolodchikova. We will deal with it. She traveled to the competition and judged us, so we met. I really like as a person and as an athlete.
- Today, on the log you score more points than Mustafina and Komova, ie in 16 years have been able to circumvent the gold and silver medalist. Today you have opened itself to the world?
- You could say that. But, in fact, I was just trying to work out their items without errors. Now I'm calm from what I was able to get right in the two finals. Now, at the crucial moment I just will not shake, because I gained some confidence.
- What are your original medal prospects in the vault and balance beam?
- If the beam will pass correctly, then I will have a good chance of gold. In the vault, one Swiss serves more difficult jumps, but I'll try to be in the "troika".

Victoria Komov: I could not get into any finals and finished performances in Baku

Today, June 15, at the first European Games in Baku (Azerbaijan) continues Gymnastics Tournament. Women held qualifying competitions in the floor exercise and balance beam. - In principle, today received more or less well, - said Victoria Komova. - A little shaken on a log than I am dissatisfied. Still, I did not act very confident. On the floor exercise I was all good, but I'm pretty rude mistake on landing. I could not get into any finals and finished performances in Baku.

- That is the European game for you to become a failure?
- Actually, I knew about the likelihood that Baku's so over. Still, I did not speak for three years - this is a very serious term. It could be anything - could fall, confused, and so on. But I went out and did not fall, it is a positive thing. I'm going in the right direction and gradually gaining shape. On the next start, I'll look more confident.

Nelli Kim - 'Russian gymnastics has closed in on itself' - Lupita translates

Lupita has translated this ITAR-TASS interview with Nelli Kim.  It's controversial, to say the least. Ed's note : much of the initial response to this interview - both here and in the wider gymternet -  has focussed on the detail of Kim's words and especially her comments about Viktoria Komova, and smiling.  But I think these have to be taken in context, and not too literally. Don't forget that just a day ago Andrei Rodionenko complained bitterly about the judging in Antwerp, calling Kim's behaviour 'aggressive'. Kim is responding to this here, and to the wider current context of Russian gymnastics.  What she is essentially saying to the Russian coach is 'get your own house in order, produce confident, disciplined, well trained gymnasts - stop complaining, do your job, and I will do mine.'   She goes about saying this in a somewhat long winded way and says some things along the way that seem contradictory, unfair, inappropriate even for th...

Review of Russian WAG at the 2014 World Championships

The Russians during a team talk in training for the World Championships.  Courtesy RGF Bronze all the way for Russia then.  Beyond the euphoria and surprise of this morning's competition there doesn't really seem to be much to write home about. I am delighted for Aliya personally that the efforts she has made to help the team have provided her with some tangible result, but the principal feeling at the end of the competition is that of relief.  As Vaitsekhovskaya said in her article last week, there were no moments of shock and awe from the Russians, and that's what will be needed if they are to compete for gold medals in Rio (translation available here ). Let's consider a timeline of the competition : before, during and after. BEFORE The promise of a return to the Worlds stage by Viktoria Komova gave Russia a feeling of optimism pre-Russia Cup.  However, Viktoria's performance at this important competition gave little reason for celebra...

Who will travel to Berne? A Russian mystery

Aliya Mustafina and team candidate Seda Tutkhalyan - both from Moscow Five days left before the MAG European Championships open in Switzerland, and Russian gymnast Nikita Nagorny is posting videos of himself practicing a full twisting Roche vault - I wonder if he will compete it in Berne?  The men's team seems fairly well prepared and ready to travel as announced some weeks ago - Kuksenkov, Belyavski, Ignatyev, Nagorny, Ablyazin.  But the composition of the women's team, who will travel to their first major competition of 2016 next week, seems somewhat undecided.  Will Natalia Kapitonova make her major senior debut in June, or will Seda Tutkhalyan, her dynamic yet unpredictable rival, grace Russia's team?  Or will other gymnasts be brought into play; will further, unexpected, changes be made? If head coach Valentina Rodionenko's recent announcement is to be believed, it is a simple case of replacing the injured Maria Paseka (a vault specialist) with Natalia ...
