  2. Dear Queen E,

Do you have any videos or news of today's events? I was hoping may be you had video of Seda' beam or Shelgunova's floor? I really enjoy your posts and I hope you keep up the good work!

    1. The Georgian Federation hasn't released official results. There are video links in the previous post - and check RRG's Twitter and Facebook pages for pics of the Day 2 medal ceremonies.

  3. Do you by any chance know what's happening with Grishina? Is she coming back any time soon? I miss her :(

  4. Did something happen to Afanasyeva? I know she was only doing vault but her score seems pretty low. Really hoping she hasn't got injured!!

  5. Afanasyeva had a mistake here but is continuing to prepare for Worlds.
Grishina's situation hasn't changed since the last time I gave an update on RRG - still recovering from her knee injury and unlikely to train for the Olympics.
    No further information officially available.

    2. Hi Queen Elizabeth, I am wondering if this is the article anonymous saw (link below). It was posted July 25th, although it references sports.ru as the source and I can't seem to find anything on Grishina on sports.ru so not entirely sure if it can be considered reliable. I am no familiar this 'wo gymnast' site. Perhaps another reader can help hunt it down. It mentions that Russia posted a list of potential Rio candidates. Courtesy of the RGF. I would be very curious to see such a published list if such an article is out there.

    3. There was a list and Nastia wasn't on it. Sources close to Nastia tell me she is unlikely to make Rio and certainly she isn't on the official training squad.
I don't report every minute detail on this blog at the moment - there is too much and everything changes all the time. The best way to determine whether Nastia will even try for Olympics will be to see whether she competes at Russia Cup in September and then at Rusdian nationals in the spring. The list that was earlier published included those gymnasts currently preparing for Glasgow and May well change moving forward.

    1. This assertion is completely false and does not come from a reliable source. Just because Aliya hasn't posted pictures of herself in training for a few days, people are making up rumours about her.
We will find out for sure who is on the Russian team on the day that the team arrives in Glasgow. Could we please stop these pointless little speculations for the time being?
I will publish any official news I hear on this blog as soon as I hear it, and will attribute it to the source - but there really is no news at all apart from a few tittle-tattling mischief makers! :-)

  9. Well V.Rod is reliable source for you? If yes, then in her latest interview in "All sport " before Batumi she said "Mustafina have enough starts in this season- FIN" What can be more reliable confirmation...

    1. I am aware of this interview. It confirms absolutely nothing as regards anyone's participation in Worlds.

  10. OK, but it's strange bq A.Rod and V.Rod say same words about Aliya "Mustafina have enough starts in this season - FIN" . It will be interesting what will say people when Mustafina will be absent in the request for worlds.( if not mistaken 24 of september by FIG rules) Then you all will understand the meaning of the same words from Rod about Aliya

    1. Yes - but you know it really isn't surprising that Aliya needs to compete in competitions to be eligible for selection - that is the same for all the gymnasts. I doubt that any of the gymnasts really know for sure if they will compete in Glasgow - yet.
Let's just stop speculating - we will find out soon enough who will be on the team. And it really isn't that vital that Aliya competes this year anyway!

30 years in elite sport: Oksana Chusovitina

You've been competing internationally for over 30 years. How has gymnastics changed over that time? Is there anything about your sport that has remained the same for decades? First of all, the age has changed. More mature athletes are competing now, which makes me happy. Secondly, the apparatuses. They've become more comfortable and sophisticated. Gymnastics in general has become more challenging, but in my youth, people performed mostly the same elements as they do now. Back then, this was par for the course, but now it surprises many. It's a bit amusing. Has the nature of the training itself changed? For me personally, absolutely. Now, my life isn't just about my athletic career. I'm involved with the Oksana Chusovitina Academy, which was personally opened by the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev. It has 155 students, both girls and boys. I used to train three times a day, but now I train once. The entire afternoon is taken up with the academy and organi...

‘My daughter likes gymnastics. For us, this is the big success’. Aliya Mustafina talks to Match TV

Via VK.com.  Google translate A big interview with Aliya Mustafina was published on MATCH!. We provide a small excerpt below, and the full version is available on the website at the link below  ❓ Aliya, you are now the head coach of the junior artistic gymnastics team. What does your typical day look like? 💜 My current life is similar to what it was when I was competing. In the morning, I have breakfast and go to work by 9:00, we train for four hours, have lunch, rest and train for another three hours. During the training camp, the athletes live at the base. They live and train on the same territory. ❓ Do you manage the gymnasts' personal trainers or do you evenly distribute the responsibilities? 💜 We work in contact with the personal trainers, I listen to their opinions. For example, if the trainer believes that their athlete needs to be given a little rest or do fewer repetitions of a particular exercise, we do so. ❓ Describe the current generation of children. Do they nee...

Training at Lake Krugloye - an update from Natalia Kalugina

Veteran Katya Kramarenko is working on an individual programme of training following her hospitalisation with pancreatitis earlier this year . Russian journalist Natalia Kalugina has visited Lake Krugloye in the last few days and has updated her Facebook page with some information on how training is going for the Russia Cup, which takes place later this month.  Unfortunately, it doesn't sound incredibly promising. Ekaterina Kramarenko is still recovering from the serious illness she suffered earlier this year.  There is still a long way to go, judging by Natalia's reaction, but she says that if every gymnast showed as much commitment as Katya, nobody would be able to beat the Russians! Tanya Nabiyeva is at camp, and Natalia had a short chat with her.  Tanya is preparing for the Russia Cup, and was invited to train at Krugloye as the team needed her.  She doesn't know if it was necessarily the right thing, but time will tell.  Tanya is very much enjoying working ...
