I-G TV - the World of Gymnastics on your computer!

Remember all those gymnastics competitions you wanted to see live, but could never find online - and had to rely on friends to provide video coverage of select routines?  Well that time is all but over, folks - the world of I-G TV has been launched today under the patronage of the Russian Federation Sports Ministry.  The first events to receive coverage will be the gymnastics and diving competitions at the Russia-China Games, taking place over the next few days - so worth visiting this brand new project!

This is what I-G TV has to say :

"The whole range of opportunities offered by the world of gymnastics and diving presented on the I-G.TV portal will be useful both for beginners and professionals. The web-cameras installed in gyms and swimming pools will enable I-G.TV visitors to watch on-line competitions in different parts of the world. Parents will see their children in the process of training. Russian gymnastic and diving stars will share their valuable experience and give advice. The best coaches will offer their master-classes and video trainings, and Olympic champions will give their recommendations on performance of any elements of interest to you. On-line consultations of leading sports doctors and psychologists will be also organized on the portal.

Apart from that, the portal is of unique nature because it grants to athletes an opportunity to share their skills and new achievements. To this end, it's enough to download your video on the I-G.TV portal, so that visitors could vote. Top athletes chosen by the audience and the sports stars will be awarded a prize established by I-G.TV."

In addition, you will find at http://www.i-g.tv/ interviews with leading coaches and gymnasts such as Leonid Arkaev and Alexei Nemov.

It's great to see such an innovative use of technology put together in a fun and educational way for both competitors and fans. Speaking as a fan and blogger, I'm fascinated by this promising project.  There is the prospect of interactive international competitions, and I wonder if there will be ringside coverage of training at Lake Krugloye?  I've registered already and recommend you to do the same!  There are fairly good quality translations available (English, German, French and Spanish) on the page.  I am looking forward to using this site extensively over the coming months as we move towards the London Olympics.

The project is supported by Olympic Champions Valeri Liukin, Igor Korobchinski, Alexei Nemov, Alexander Karelin, Dimitri Sautin and Evgenyi Podgornyi with British coach Keith Richardson.

With thanks to Vladimir Zaglada who has brought this fantastic website to our attention!

Unfortunately, the public attention and political discussions were much greater than the organizers expected. I am grateful to TSV Tittmoning-Chemnitz for the opportunity to participate in the semi-finals and, most importantly, for their respectful and kind attitude. In Germany, I received tremendous support from spectators, athletes, coaches, and referees. A sports arena is a place where athletes meet each other and demonstrate their abilities in their favorite sport. Sport provides the opportunity to showcase the results of their hard work and athletic prowess. Remembering last summer - Nelli Kim, her judges and Viktoria Komova

In view of Nelli Kim's recent interview , Lupita and I thought it timely to revisit the performance of some of the WTC President's judges over past competitions ... this article from 27th August 2012 is reposted here, as a reminder. You will find a link to the FIG's newly published book of results at the Olympic Games here .  This year, they have broken down the judge's execution scores so you can see exactly how each judge evaluated the gymnasts' performances.  It makes for interesting reading - if only I had more time to analyse each judge's marking.  A skim reading already highlights multiple inconsistencies in individual judges' marks and makes you wonder why they bother with the jury at all. I have taken the time to look at the reference judges' scores for the top four in the women's all around.  The FIG explains here what their role is, and how they are selected.  I even used my calculator, which is a risky thing in my hands.  M...
