I-G TV - the World of Gymnastics on your computer!

Remember all those gymnastics competitions you wanted to see live, but could never find online - and had to rely on friends to provide video coverage of select routines?  Well that time is all but over, folks - the world of I-G TV has been launched today under the patronage of the Russian Federation Sports Ministry.  The first events to receive coverage will be the gymnastics and diving competitions at the Russia-China Games, taking place over the next few days - so worth visiting this brand new project!

This is what I-G TV has to say :

"The whole range of opportunities offered by the world of gymnastics and diving presented on the I-G.TV portal will be useful both for beginners and professionals. The web-cameras installed in gyms and swimming pools will enable I-G.TV visitors to watch on-line competitions in different parts of the world. Parents will see their children in the process of training. Russian gymnastic and diving stars will share their valuable experience and give advice. The best coaches will offer their master-classes and video trainings, and Olympic champions will give their recommendations on performance of any elements of interest to you. On-line consultations of leading sports doctors and psychologists will be also organized on the portal.

Apart from that, the portal is of unique nature because it grants to athletes an opportunity to share their skills and new achievements. To this end, it's enough to download your video on the I-G.TV portal, so that visitors could vote. Top athletes chosen by the audience and the sports stars will be awarded a prize established by I-G.TV."

In addition, you will find at http://www.i-g.tv/ interviews with leading coaches and gymnasts such as Leonid Arkaev and Alexei Nemov.

It's great to see such an innovative use of technology put together in a fun and educational way for both competitors and fans. Speaking as a fan and blogger, I'm fascinated by this promising project.  There is the prospect of interactive international competitions, and I wonder if there will be ringside coverage of training at Lake Krugloye?  I've registered already and recommend you to do the same!  There are fairly good quality translations available (English, German, French and Spanish) on the page.  I am looking forward to using this site extensively over the coming months as we move towards the London Olympics.

The project is supported by Olympic Champions Valeri Liukin, Igor Korobchinski, Alexei Nemov, Alexander Karelin, Dimitri Sautin and Evgenyi Podgornyi with British coach Keith Richardson.

With thanks to Vladimir Zaglada who has brought this fantastic website to our attention!

How happy we were when we could share with such stars as Boginskaya, Scherbo, and Ivankov,...

Mustafina Interview 2 of 2 : 'I will only perform under the Russian flag'

Argumentyi i Fakti interview with Aliya Mustafina Translated by Marina Vulis ‘I have no fear’, says Aliya Mustafina.   ‘My father [Farhat Mustafin, the bronze medallist in Greco-Roman wrestling at the 1976 Olympics] took me to my first gymnastics class.   In his opinion children need to do sports, and he saw gymnastics as useful for my general development.   He had no goals – just to let us practice.’ It did not end with ‘just practice’ – she became the World Champion at 16, but then had an ACL injury the next year (2011) at the Europeans.   Even just returning to gymnastics is a feat; then she came back to win four medals at the 2012 Olympics. Aliya Mustafina – That injury.   I do not know why I was ashamed – so many people were watching me and I could not even walk.   My parents!   They saw everything on TV (the coach had to carry her from the podium).   Of course I was aware that anything could happen in gymnastics, but I di...

Marinov planning a partial comeback at the Russian champs

ðŸŽ¤ "Plans for August: work, work, and work some more!" — Daniil Marinov on the training camp in Sirius, summer, and preparation for the Russian Championship ❓ How productive was your time at the training camp in Sirius? "Personally, I viewed this training camp not only as a recovery camp, but also as a preparatory one. My teammates had just recently returned from competitions, and yes, they needed a rest. But I, on the contrary, needed to start working hard, because there wasn't much time left before the Russian Championship. At the training camp in Sirius, I was able to work hard, and at the same time swim in the sea, change the scenery. I'm glad I went with the whole team!" ❓ Did you manage to regain your physical fitness after shoulder surgery? "More or less, yes. I remembered many elements from my routine. But I still continue to treat and pump up my shoulder, in parallel with getting into shape." ❓ Are you already working on all the apparatus...
