World Champions on the uneven bars!

Lovely montage from Maria Kharenkova for World Champions in the uneven bars, Daria Spiridonova and Viktoria Komova.  Molodyets!  You were the champions of beauty!

  1. Congrats to Komova, spiridonova for the gold medals
what happened in UB final is a laugh, as the judges can no longer differentiate between the gymnasts' routines in terms of executions and it means that they have reached to unprecedented level of incompetence ... Nellie Kim should go and NOW

  2. I am happy for both. What a great day for Russia, gold medals on two event finals. However, not to take away from a good day for Russia, but Komova deserved the gold. She should have had the highest E score of the four.

  3. Please explain how Komova and Kocian had the same E-score?

    1. Maybe because Kocian had many leg separations and Komova not?LOL
it's a festival: gold for every one, even who doesn't deserve it ...

    2. Komova had bent arms on the releases. Bent legs every times she had giants. Half turn before dismount wasn't on handstand. And sadly, she was attempting layout jaeger and failed, judges gave piked jaeger and deduction on E-Score for body position not piked enough.

    4. @cts sam, about which routine are you talking about? and the judges told you that or it is just your ideas?
the same cliche I hear talking about her "handstands" which is perfect for me by the way, while they don't comment on the Americans' gymnasts handstands and legs and landings and fluidity which are things they lack very badly.

    5. Maybe it was her "russian tap" before the pike katchev and before the dismount, that's already 0.6 in deductions, but anyway she delivered the most beautiful and fluid routine.

  4. As they say: not all gymnast are ballerinas. Even though Kocian cannot keep her legs together and has flexed feet , she deserves huge scores because it is her way to be artístic. LOL

  6. What is wrong with you people? Why can't you be happy for once? For you watchers in front of computers and televisions it is cheating if Russians doesn't win gold or heavens forbid them sharing glory with anyone else.

  7. Agree with the other anon: why can't y'all be happy? The gymnasts seemed beyond thrilled for each other and themselves. Also, if you truly think Komova alone should have won then you wouldn't be singling out Kocian. May I remind you there are two other gold medalist? Yet you only care about the American... Good job to all the winners.

  8. we will be happy for the deserved one, and we are talking about the execution here they got so obviously the other two got lower that Komova and Kocian, amd that is why we singling out Kocain, I thought it is simple and plain like that

  9. there's a statistic that religious people are happier than atheists. I wonder what the statistic is for russian/usa stans. seems to me one group is positive and the other is always trying to find ways to drown in its own sympathy and misery.

  10. If the gymnastics that USA represents stands for the positive and happy group, then no thanks I would stick with the Russian misery...

  11. 1 Gold for viktoria, 2 Gold for the other two, and USA may be fourth

The Maximum score for each apparatus, why is it NOT equal????
If Zimone near 16 at FX, then the maximum of UB should also near 16, NOT only 15.4, VERY VERY Bias for this era of judge !!!!

  12. I was curious about that point you just raised there. There is no doubt that Simone is a wonderful technician on floor and deserves her very high marks on floor. Her floor routine in the event final had very little deductions other thsn a couple of hops back after her tumbles. But was this not the case with Viktoria komova's uneven bars set in the event final ? Yet her execution was nowhere near as high as Simone's. Anybody know why ? Do you think it's bias ? Or is this something to do with her comments about the Americans ? It does seem rather unlikely but I did wonder ...

  13. In fact the Judges had no problem giving Douglas almost 9.0 Execution on Bars (in Team final) but they had a real problem giving it to Komova or Spiridinova ...

Watanabe campaigns for IOC President role in Russia

Sport is the low hanging fruit of world politics. The IOC ban on Russian athletes has kept Russian soft influence to a minimum over past years. I understand the emotion.    For example, how could Nagorny (a Russian World and Olympic champion) compete alongside Ukrainian rivals when he has openly endorsed the war, and even encouraged his Russian team mates to join up and take part in the military action? In this video  FIG President Watanabe is welcomed to Round Lake, Russia’s national training centre for gymnastics, by Russian head coach Andrei Rodionenko and the aforementioned Nikita Nagorny.    Rodionenko is a long-serving member of the international gymnastics community.    He has been head coach of Soviet, Australian, Canadian and, now, the Russian teams. Watanabe is campaigning for votes in his quest to be voted IOC President.    That’s like the Prime Minister of the UK putting himself forward as Head of NATO - it’s a big step.  ...

Tatyana Nabiyeva on work and love in China

Some highlights from a long interview with 2010 World champion Tatyana Nabiyeva.  Source: Russian team page on VK.com.  Translation - Google translate A big interview with Tatyana Nabieva about the peculiarities of work and life in China, the bright years of her sports career, a little about modern gymnastics and about love. On the Nabiyeva flight — At the same championship, you presented a new element on the bars, which was later added to the rules with your last name (flying over the top bar with a straight body, difficulty group F. — Sport24). How did you come up with the idea to try something new? — Actually, it happened spontaneously, I think. We worked with Vera Iosifovna [Kiryashova] on the purity of the elements on the bars, sometimes I didn’t fly all the way to the Shaposhnikova element. Once I didn’t fly all the way to the bars either and stood on my feet between the bars, bending my legs in flight for safety. Then Vera Iosifovna said that this was a different eleme...
