  1. Lots of falls today. It was sad to see Komova fall twice on bars. During warm up she hit that combo very well every time, but she seemed a little down, not confident. Paseka to me was the only gymnast today who looked confident and ready to fight. Everyone else looked a little off; even Afan. It was nice to see Grishina; her lines and posture is still so beautiful even with watered down routines. I hope everyone has a much better day during finals, because as a Russian fan, this was a little depressing.

  3. Dear Queen E.,

Do you know why Afan changed her floor music as I really liked her floor routine from this year's European's? Also do you have video of her beam routine?

Thank you for all of your hard work

'We were a new team, all the girls are young, and it's their first time in such a serious competition.  I think today we performed to the best of our ability.  Yes, we have had two falls today - on the uneven bars and balance beam.' 'The young girls failed  psychologically, but  the first time you compete on the senior podium - it's not very easy.  No  one is sad.  I  am very pleased with such a performance.  Everything  was fair enough, maybe not everywhere and in all things, but overall it was quite as expected, both our rivals, and the judging.' 'I began to experience more pain in the ankle - continued Aliya Mustafina. - To do the dismounts I had to muster all my strength and clench my teeth.  The coaches have d

Fact or fiction? The press, gymnastics and pregnancy doping

It was a Sunday morning.  I was drinking my coffee and contemplating the day ahead - a workout at the gym, shopping for groceries, an evening reading a book, or catching up on last night's episodes of crime thriller The Bridge .  How nice it was not to have to think about work for a day. Then I saw it - a story about the history of doping in The Observer .  Interesting reading. Of course, cheating is as old as the hills.  It is, unfortunately, human nature for some people to try to gain easy advantage in any kind of competition.  That is why we have laws, rules, ethical guidelines.  People who cheat should face justice and shouldn't complain when they are found out. But the story about pregnancy doping bothered me.  Hadn't that been found to be fictional?  The author began with Olga Kovalenko's allegations made in 1994 - but the rumours had started way back in 1991 with the documentary series More Than A Game .  The practice of pregnancy doping was dis
