Maria Paseka training in Spain

As you will probably know, the Russian WAG team has travelled to Mallorca for their annual active recreation. Aliya Mustafina, Viktoria Komova, Anna Dementyeva, Tatiana Nabieva and Maria Paseka are there, amongst others - a full list of the names to be confirmed. (Anastasia Grishina has had minor surgery and is travelling to Cyprus with her mother.)

The girls are working out their competition commitments for the coming months, with Anna planning to appear in Mexico in October, and Aliya beginning her assault on the next Olympic cycle in December in Stuttgart. They return to Moscow tomorrow, 17th September.

Meantime, Maria Paseka has been hard at work on the apparatus and is evidently preparing new skills for uneven bars and floors. See the video below and reflect on the nascent brilliance demonstrated. Markelov to Gienger combination? That's exciting stuff!!!

  1. She looking really good.

I also glad to see Tatiana Nabiyeva there, she's a little inconsistence but when she's on Tatiana is really good, she could be a good player on UB (wonder if she will be doing the Nabiyeva again, that move is mind blowing!) and Vault. I also appreciate her sportsmanship she always seems to be rooting for the team and every individual team member; in fact what I miss during the Russian team from 2012 (EC and OG) was the team cohesion from the 2010(I miss seeing Semenova, Nabiyeva, Mustafina, Kurbatova, Afanasyeva "antics" on the apparatus' sideline when one of the other girls was performing) there's a chemistry between the 2010 team as a whole that seems to be absent in the 2012 team.
Speaking of Afan, wasn't she supposed to be in Spain too? is there any news about her?

    2. Nice seeing Paseka, even if she was falling left and right. It seems she is trying to improve her uneven bars as well.

Nice seeing Nabs in the background, good that she is still doing Gymnastics.

Andrei Rodionenko explains Russia's performance at Worlds - Lupitatranslates

Rodionenko with European Champion David Belyavski  Courtesy RGF/Elena Mikhailova This is the interview that many people on the internet have already commented on, regarding Andrei Rodionenko's alleged racism.  The original, Russian language version, appears on VTB Bank's website (VTB are sponsors of Russian gymnastics).  It takes cleverer people than me to decide what is racism, what is deliberately perjorative, and what is inferred in an interviewer's question.  For now, I will not comment on this, therefore, but I would ask you to read Lupita's translation carefully before you form your own opinion.   I am providing some links below which might help you to decide where you stand. Viktoria Komova - apology

Viktoria wrote some hasty words last night in the heat of the moment.  We all have such times, when hurt feelings lead us to behave uncharacteristically.  It is not important what she said; it is important that Vika has reflected and wants us all to read this message which she published on VK.com this morning. "Dear friends! I want to apologize for my statements about American girls, about drugs, all my words were spoken on emotions. Of course I haven't any proof and didn't really mean it and so on... I am so sorry. I want to apologize for my character to all of you". Vika, we are still with you every step of the way.
