Spiridonova, Tutkhalyan, Kharenkova - a great finish but with too many errors.  Floor is a real weakness for this team, although bars are good and beam has significant potential ...

    The positives: Congrats to Spiridonova; she is a really elegant gymnast and was reliable on both days. Great bar worker and her beam is very elegant; she just needs more difficulty there. Paseka is the most improved gymnast; her vaults are getting better and better.

    The negatives: It's hard being a Russian fan. After seeing Komova at the European games, I thought she was only going to get better, but she is regressing! She looked better back then. What is going on. Even her bars today were not as good. Same for Seda; too many falls. What is going on? This team desperately needs Mustafina. I am glad they gave her a break and she didn't have to compete, because they are going to need her big time.

    Queen Elizabeth; I would love to hear (read) your thoughts. This is depressing.

    So Melnikova won but she isn't a senior so 2nd place Spiridonova got it. Congrats to her, she has improved this last year. However, the Russia program is in trouble if a junior won.

    Komova didn't do great here at all, neither did some others. Seda had too many falls. they need to work hard because things aren't looking good. Floor is pathetic right now, do they have a floor specialist? they girls need to do better at the floor. I am not sure they have the difficulty on it, and definitely not the execution right now. Also what is up with those vault scores.

    I thought the program was suppose to be getting better? Hopefully they can have some improvements before worlds.

      She didn't do great, but she didn't do bad either. She fell in quals on bars and failed to make the EF but she did do a full solid routine for team...Best part is that she completed an exhibition routine featuring her Fabrichnova dismount and much better layout jaeger form. This routine was technically the highest scoring routine of the meet. Her beam has always been hit or miss, so nothing new to see except she knows how to fight and stay on. She didn't do floor or vault.

    without Musty, Russia likely won't podium on AA. I think they still have great chance for silver in TF if everyone hits. Yes, we do need Musty still on the worlds team... Aside from Ksenia, Fx will be a problem with this current team. Beam not as bad but could be also a problem.

National team coaches 2024, the Russian Federation - a full list

In January each year the Russian Gymnastics Federation publishes its list of coaches and gymnasts who have made the training teams for their country.  You will find below a transliteration of the list of national team coaches, 70 of them in total.  The oldest member of the team is Valentina Rodionenko, 88, the youngest Ivan Galonenko, 24 - he is a bars coach, to the junior women's team.   The senior coaches to the senior teams would all have qualified as coaches during the Soviet era.  Many of them work out of Moscow, Vladimir and Rostov, former Soviet strongholds of gymnastics.  The doctors are all attached to Yaroslavl.  St Petersburg has two coaches listed, but there are no St Petersburg gymnasts on the senior national teams at present.  There are no coaches from Russia's Far East.  This region has been highlighted as a geographical area President Putin is targetting for sports development and investment over the coming years.   ...

You've been competing internationally for over 30 years. How has gymnastics changed over that time? Is there anything about your sport that has remained the same for decades? First of all, the age has changed. More mature athletes are competing now, which makes me happy. Secondly, the apparatuses. They've become more comfortable and sophisticated.
