VOTE for Aliya Mustafina - Sportswoman of the Year

Queen Mustafina has been nominated for the Women's Sports Foundation's Sportswoman of the Year Award.  Please vote for her!  She is the only gymnast amongst ten athletes nominated from across sports including swimming, athletics and ice-skating.  Nastia Liukin is a previous winner of this award.

To vote, you should go to the following URL: http://www.facebook.com/WomensSportsFoundation
You should 'like' the Women's Sports Foundation first of all.

Then go to the album of pictures of individual finalists in the competition and 'like' the photograph of Aliya.  At present she is in fifth place, well behind golfer Yani Tseng who leads the field by a large margin, but closely matched with four other sportswomen.

The top three finalists will be announced on the 16th September, and invited to an awards ceremony on 19th October 2011.  The final deadline for voting is the 5th September, so not long to go ...

Good luck Aliya!  Get voting all gymnastics fans!  Let's make an impact for gymnastics!

Nelli Kim - 'Russian gymnastics has closed in on itself' - Lupita translates

Lupita has translated this ITAR-TASS interview with Nelli Kim.  It's controversial, to say the least. Ed's note : much of the initial response to this interview - both here and in the wider gymternet -  has focussed on the detail of Kim's words and especially her comments about Viktoria Komova, and smiling.  But I think these have to be taken in context, and not too literally. Don't forget that just a day ago Andrei Rodionenko complained bitterly about the judging in Antwerp, calling Kim's behaviour 'aggressive'.
