Oleg Belozyorev : it’s important that we have an international front

Translated from R Sport.  What the President says about relations with the FIG and IOC is echoed by Nagorny in another short interview.  Nagorny wants there to be international competitions with Russian gymnasts - but this doesn’t account for the sanctions.  Given his work as a TV/online producer he may be looking for a form of cultural exchange that sidesteps the usual structures.  But I wouldn’t bet on it happening …

Now read on, via Rsport:

Oleg Belozerov, head of Russian Railways, who was elected president of the Russian Gymnastics Federation, said that the unification of gymnastics federations of countries was the most important element for direct interaction with the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

🙏"I would like to thank all the participants of today's conference for electing me president of the Russian Gymnastics Federation: the Ministry of Sports, the Russian Olympic Committee, and delegates. The most important element is the unification of five sports so that we can interact directly with the FIG and the Olympic Committee. There is no unification in the subjects, each federation remains separate. We can relay the best practices between sports to create better analogues.

👉 The key task is to popularize gymnastics, it has always been a basic sport, a person involved in gymnastics is a systemically thinking person. And this is a citizen of Russia, along with gymnastics, a certain attitude towards our country is absorbed," Belozerov told reporters.

🧮 "The most important issue is refereeing, it must be unshakable and honest, this principle must be observed, it is necessary to conduct training for judges, introduce digital systems that could objectively evaluate the performances of participants. We will consider the remaining issues later, the main principle is to do no harm, move forward and support our wonderful champions," he added.

Belozerov also spoke about the need for additional training for coaches and targeted training in all types.

🎓 "It is necessary to conduct additional training for coaches, support them. Life is developing very quickly, it is necessary to complete their studies. It is possible to provide basic training on the basis of ten educational institutions of the Ministry of Sports. I believe that it would be possible to carry out targeted training in sports, I am going to discuss this with the Ministry of Sports, and also conduct additional training events," the head of the Russian Gymnastics Federation concluded.

🤸"It is important to see what elements, despite the illegal sanctions, can be implemented on the international stage, we will make every effort to return to the Olympic movement, to the international stage, but if the illegal sanctions continue, we will develop other formats - this includes BRICS and other possible options in order to maintain a good level of competition," Belozerov told reporters.

  1. I think Russia have lost nothing much from being banned from IGF sponsored events. Anna Kalmykova won this week's Voronin Cup, as she did at the Russian Cup in August. New senior Lyudi Roshchina came second with her best AA score. Melka and Listy both scored 55 also. I mean, that would have been at least a silver medal in Paris. They will get enough international exposure against quality teams. Their current depth is an issue though

Aliya Mustafina - 'each medal is very special'

'I'm very happy that everything turned out well today  ... Each medal is very special.  The UK team made mistakes, so there was a wide margin [of victory]... But naturally, [what I did] is not enough for the Olympics.  I prepared well for beam and bars but I am not ready for floor, I stepped up to help the team. ... To be honest, I did not look at the scores [when asked how the team reacted to the 6.5 gap before the final apparatus].  Gelya (Melnikova) is a good girl, she did everything and did not falter ... Seda fell on quite a complex element.  There is more work to do, but everything else went well.' [About a protest taken by the coaches on her beam score]. 'I am used to my protests being rejected, everything is normal!' Via vk.com I n other news , the UEG has confirmed that Spiridonova will replace Melnikova in tomorrow's bars final. No reason is given, but it is generally considered that Dasha has a better chance of gold.  This decision also means tha...

FIG income down in wake of Russian sanctions

You can read the Examiner article below for details if the FIG’s somewhat disappointing financial performance.  Perhaps you have some ideas how it could be improved?  Live streaming of quals could be one new income stream. In the meantime, my opinion.  Never forget that Russian bank VTB was a sponsor of FIG before the sanctions took hold.    Russia’s withdrawal from the sport has directly reduced income - firstly, no VTB sponsorship; secondly the sport has less entertainment value without the artistic, innovative and technically proficient gymnasts of Russia.  This again affects income levels as reduced spectator interest and the resulting decrease in sponsorship and broadcast revenues. I’m not arguing about the need for sanctions, either way.    Just pointing out that if you cut off the limbs, the body will be affected. https://www.thesportsexaminer.com/gymnastics-fig-2024-financial-report-shows-very-modest-19-million-in-2024-revenue-but-good-res...
