Sadly, Komova is out of the competition, replaced by Kramarenko.  We have to wait for official notification from the Federation, or from Viktoria herself, of the reason.

  1. Hi Queen Elizabeth ... did you read this piece of news?

    1. Hi Anon, I don't really know enough about these cases to be able to comment - I wish the FIG could give more detail. In any event, my criticisms if the judging tend to be more about the whole principle of marking additively rather than corruption, which it seems to me is inherent in any system. What do you think?

    2. Thank you Queen Elizabeth for your soonest reply, and I will try to rephrase my thoughts in these questions:
      1. Why FIG doesn’t reveal the names of these judges?
      2. subsequently, the names of the countries/gymnasts that they have favored/overscored?
      3. Were these judges overscored these countries/gymnasts only or they on a parallel way underscored these countries/gymnasts’ rivals?
      4. It’s said that some of these judges received a ban and some “warned” and my question about those who warned, what they have warned about? Is this related to that favoritism thing or just technical errors?
      5. Did they take money or it’s just a personal bias?
      6. Fig talks about what they call “flaws found in judging” what are these flaws? What will they do to avoid it? Because it seems to me that it’s getting worth…
      7. Is this used to be in gymnastics in the past? or it’s a modern day phenomena? And the frequency in past and present?
Thank you again and sorry for my modest level of English …

    3. Hi John,
It's a mystery ... I think we would all like to know the answers to these questions :-)

  2. So what Komova won't go to Europeans? They are giving her more time to get ready or Worlds, or is she injured again?

Ah poor Aliya, the pressure on her as well. It will be interesting seeing the youngsters though, hopefully they can do well.

  3. Someone please explain to me why on earth they would send Kramarenko over Rodionova or Fedorova unless they are injured?? Even sending Paseka just for vault would make more sense in my mind. Kramarenko literally brings nothing to the team. With Radio nova they have perfectly replaced Komova on bars and beam with someone who is capable of scoring high 14's on both. Or bring Fedorova for beam and floor and use Sosnitskaya on bars. The only event Kramarenko is decent on is bars, and Musty, Sos, and Spiri are all better. They should just deal with having one FTY, and bring someone who can make up for that difference on bars or beam. With this team, I wouldn't be surprised if Russia was outscored by GB who is looking great on everything except floor. Fingers crossed that this list changes!

  4. Rein, if this is indeed the final team for Sofia - and it will most probably change again - the only real explanation I can think if is that as an experienced international Kramarenko would be expected to be the team' stable setter, and a steadying influence on all those young newcomers to the team. Either that, or yet another virus has combed its way through Krugloye, leaving only these gymnasts standing.

I don't think Paseka is a good choice for any team at present, by the way ... A one piece specialist who lacks reliability and who is doing nothing new.

  5. Any news of WHY Komova is out? In Kramarenko's defense, she score 4th in the all around and has good bars and usable floor and vault. She has experience, is steady, and could be plugged in anywhere in a pinch.... uhhh, I thought this was finally Komova's year.....

  6. The news is that Komova sustained an ankle injury in practice and has joined Grishina in Germany to have surgery. This came from Grishina's fan chat earlier today. :-\

  7. this is just enough, the Rodidenkos need to go....... Russia need to be focus on the Juniors and build a great team.
why they still holding on Grishina!!! i know she is beautiful, she she has never done anything for the team.... Komova another injury!!!!!! i think she should retire.....

  8. Yea, she basically injured it again. For some reason I had a feeling Komova was going to injure that ankle right before Euros or Worlds....but so soon! Wow....it must have been unstable. She definitely needs something done for it to continue as an elite gymnast. Is this the 3rd surgery on that ankle?

  9. Nastia said that Vika injured the ankle right after Russian Champs and will go to Munich for surgery at the end of April. But she also said that while she lives with Viktoria at the national training centre, she didn't want to speak for her team mate. So this is information which we can discuss amongst ourselves, but I would advise against too much hype. It may discourage the gymnasts from talking if they feel that their trust is taken for granted. Nastia perhaps doesn't realise that we all follow her discussions so closely. So no headlines please to protect Nastia.

  10. What a shame Deny retired. Even if she was a little inconsistent at times she would have been a good choice as a replacement.

  11. I am saying it again as i've said it before. The Rodionenkos need to GO. They basically live competition to competition. No long term vision, no strategy, random upgrades and no gap filling. They sit in the hands off seat to show on the media to claim the credit and hold the inferiors responsible if something goes wrong. Everything could go the same way it goes now with them off that seat. So, they need to go, or pay Russia (i.e Mustafina / Alexandrov ) legacy a good bye.

  12. RIEN, I agree with your point of view. I also think Radionova Fedorova and perfectly replace Komova on bars and beam with someone who is capable of scoring high 14's on both. In fact, I think They Should the deal with having just one FTY, and bring someone who can make up for que difference on bars or beam.

    1. I agree. I do think think bringing in a veteran who is so mediocre on every event will benefit them. They have Mustafina. Rodionova has been to a world championship and her bar technique has improved by years. I think she would have been perfect for the team. She should take about the Arabian combo and add a layout. I think her beam would be incredible. Hopefully they change their mind and add her!

    2. Rodionova didn't compete on the other events at the Russian Championships because she TOO is injured! She only trains bars.

Who really won the WAG All Around?

You will find a link to the FIG's newly published book of results at the Olympic Games here .  This year, they have broken down the judge's execution scores so you can see exactly how each judge evaluated the gymnasts' performances.  It makes for interesting reading - if only I had more time to analyse each judge's marking.  A skim reading already highlights multiple inconsistencies in individual judges' marks and makes you wonder why they bother with the jury at all. I have taken the time to look at the reference judges' scores for the top four in the women's all around.  The FIG explains here what their role is, and how they are selected.  I even used my calculator, which is a risky thing in my hands.  My, how I wish we could have seen a similar document for the Tokyo World Championships. I wonder if anyone can explain how, if the FIG's Code of Points is so objective and fair, it is possible to come up with two different results using two differ...

Simone and the others - results and reflections

In the end, it was as predicted : Simone and the others, with Simone's teammate, Alexandra Raisman, providing the back up.  I do not need to point out that, by definition, the Americans are scoring significantly higher marks than the rest of the field.  Congratulations to them! Aliya Mustafina finished in third place.  The 2012 bronze medalist led the competition after vault and uneven bars, but had a very nervous outing on beam that might have taken a less experienced gymnast out of the medals.  A bravura performance on floor brought Aliya back though to confirm her third place all around.  From her senior debut in 2010 to today, Mustafina has continuously set high standards of grace.    It is the first time since 2000 that a gymnast (Amanar) has medalled in the all around at two consecutive Olympics, and  if Aliya can medal on Saturday's uneven bars final, she will once again be Russia's biggest medal winner of the women's gymnastics.  Russ...

Andrei Rodionenko explains Russia's performance at Worlds - Lupitatranslates

Rodionenko with European Champion David Belyavski  Courtesy RGF/Elena Mikhailova This is the interview that many people on the internet have already commented on, regarding Andrei Rodionenko's alleged racism.  The original, Russian language version, appears on VTB Bank's website (VTB are sponsors of Russian gymnastics).  It takes cleverer people than me to decide what is racism, what is deliberately perjorative, and what is inferred in an interviewer's question.  For now, I will not comment on this, therefore, but I would ask you to read Lupita's translation carefully before you form your own opinion.   I am providing some links below which might help you to decide where you stand.
