Моscow, October 16th – Silver medallist at the 2012 London Olympics, Ksenia Afanasyeva, will continue her career in artistic gymnastics.

Her mandate as Deputy at the city elections in Bogoroditsk won't lead to her leaving gymnastics, stated Afanasyeva in an interview she gave to the Russian Ministry of Sport’s website.

"After the end of a sports career, life must go on. I won’t be always in sport. Nevertheless, I don’t intend to quit any time soon. My future aims are the Russian Championships, the European Championships and the 2013 Universiade. 

I want to become Deputy because I want to help people. I’ll have the opportunity to do so in the city’s council. Bogoroditsk is located in the Tula region, where I come from. I have families who live near the city. They support me in this enterprise ",  said Afanasyeva.

    Nobody photographs as beautifully as Kseniia, I swear her gymnastics doesn't have a bad moment.

    Good for her, hopefully she can make a difference, but I know that Khorkina did politics as well, not sure if she was able to make a difference.

    It's nice to see that Ksenia would be doing something else and not coaching as many do.

Simone and the others - results and reflections

In the end, it was as predicted : Simone and the others, with Simone's teammate, Alexandra Raisman, providing the back up.  I do not need to point out that, by definition, the Americans are scoring significantly higher marks than the rest of the field.  Congratulations to them! Aliya Mustafina finished in third place.  The 2012 bronze medalist led the competition after vault and uneven bars, but had a very nervous outing on beam that might have taken a less experienced gymnast out of the medals.  A bravura performance on floor brought Aliya back though to confirm her third place all around.  From her senior debut in 2010 to today, Mustafina has continuously set high standards of grace.    It is the first time since 2000 that a gymnast (Amanar) has medalled in the all around at two consecutive Olympics, and  if Aliya can medal on Saturday's uneven bars final, she will once again be Russia's biggest medal winner of the women's gymnastics.  Russ...
