Bondareva golden at Gymnix Event Finals

Maria Bondareva again struck gold in Canada on Sunday, winning three golds on bars, beam and floor at the Gymnix International Junior Cup.  The fullest results available to date are here and I expect full results to be available on the official competition page soon.  Maria's victory in Saturday's all around competition, along with some video, is reported here, and you can find quick hits from both comps at the Gymnastics Examiner.

The only event that Bondareva did not win here (and indeed, did not even qualify to) was vault.

Relative weakness on vault does seem to be a recurring problem with the Russians at present, and although Maria has plenty of time to make improvements I'm wondering how the seniors are doing.

At this rate the Russians will win gold on bars, beam and floor at the Olympics - yet be nowhere on vault.  It's unfortunate that the Code favours the least complex and interesting piece so strongly.

  1. Bondareva is such a little star in the making..it will be interesting to follow her for the next quad! I found it quite remarkable that she outscored the seniors on both bars and beam!

On the Nabiyeva flight — At the same championship, you presented a new element on the bars, which was later added to the rules with your last name (flying over the top bar with a straight body, difficulty group F. — Sport24). We worked with Vera Iosifovna [Kiryashova] on the purity of the elements on the bars, sometimes I didn’t fly all the way to the Shaposhnikova element. Once I didn’t fly all the way to the bars either and stood on my feet between the bars, bending my legs in flight for safety. Then Vera Iosifovna said that this was a different eleme...

An official announcement, via VK.  Google translate. Official statement of the Russian Gymnastics Federation All Russian athletes representing artistic and rhythmic gymnastics, who received "neutral status", decided to refrain from participating in the upcoming competitions under the auspices of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG). The reason for this decision is the numerous unfounded and biased refusals of the FIG special committee to allow our gymnasts to compete. The Russian Gymnastics Federation respects and shares the position of the athletes. President of the Russian Gymnastics Federation Oleg Belozerov: "I respect the athletes' decision and understand what it is dictated by. At our meeting on March 10, Mr. Watanabe said that "I would like to use all my strength to once again think about the role of sport in this world.
