Updated - Nanning World Gymnastics Championships 2014 - BBC TV coverage

Yay!  First news available now of the BBC TV coverage of the Nanning Championships.  Starting on Tuesday 7th October at 3.00 pm until 5.15 pm BST, BBC2 will be covering the men's team final.  Gymnastics will be covered at the same time every day of that week.  Still waiting to hear what the weekend schedule will be.

Given the time difference between Nanning and London it looks as though this is delayed live coverage of the events.  If there is further news about live red button coverage I will update this page.

Further live coverage of event finals has now been confirmed :

BBC1 on Saturday 11th October, 2.20 to 3.50pm
BBC2 on Sunday 12th October, 4.00 to 5.30pm

Red button coverage begins at 12pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and 12.35 on Friday.  Saturday and Sunday times yet to be published.

In the United States, USAGymWorlds.com also has live streaming of podium training and qualifications. This coverage is exclusive to the USA unless you can find IP protection.  Times are US eastern.

Does anyone know if there will be live streaming available anywhere?  Please leave any broadcast information you have in the comments - this will be helpful to everyone, particularly those in territories not covered by the BBC.

Nastiafan has produced these useful schedule summaries so you can follow all the fun.  The times given in the schedule below are local to Nanning.

The official website is here, although the English language version is not yet complete.  But there is a countdown clock!  Exciting to see how soon the competition is!  http://en.nanning2014gymnastics.com/

  1. USAG always does a live feed of PT, TF, EF. But i know this is geoblocked so if you know this is a problem every year please use a IP address changer from now. Look around and find a good one so you're not panicking the day of competition.

  2. Here are details of the stateside livestream of podium training and quals, courtesy of USAgymworld.com :

    Dear Gymnastics Fans…
    Dear gymnastics fans,

Last year, we delivered live webcasts from the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Antwerp. It was the first time – as far as I can remember – that live coverage of podium training or qualification had ever been available in the United States.

We want to once again deliver live coverage of both podium training and qualification from 2014 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Nanning, China. The biggest challenge in delivering this kind of coverage is going into a venue that we are unfamiliar with and working out any issues we may encounter.

Why am I telling you this? First, so that (hopefully) you’ll bear with us as we navigate any technical issues we may run into – this will be especially important during podium training. And second, so you can plan. Here’s the schedule of sessions we hope to stream from Nanning:

    Sept. 30
    5-7:15 a.m. ET – Men’s Podium Training, Sub. 9

    Oct. 1
    6-7:45 a.m. ET – Women’s Podium Training, Sub. 5

    Oct. 3
    2:30-4:45 a.m. ET – Men’s Qualifying, Sub. 3 (China)
    8-10:15 a.m. ET – Men’s Qualifying, Sub. 5 (Great Britain)
    11:30 p.m. – 1:45 a.m. ET – Men’s Qualifying, Sub. 7 (Japan)

    Oct. 4
    5-7:15 a.m. ET – Men’s Qualifying, Sub. 9 (USA)
    9-10:45 p.m. ET – Women’s Qualifying, Sub. 1 (Russia)

    Oct. 5
    6-7:45 a.m. ET – Women’s Qualifying, Sub. 5 (USA)
    11 p.m. – 12:45 a.m. ET – Women’s Qualifying, Sub. 8 (China)

    Oct. 6
    3:30-5:15 a.m. ET – Women’s Qualifying, Sub. 10 (Romania, Great Britain)

Live coverage of the medal rounds will be available once again through our partnership with Universal Sports. Fans will be able to watch a feed on USAGymWorlds.com, for free and without authentication, beginning at 7 a.m. ET on Oct. 7 with the men’s team final.

One note, as the United States rights holders for the Worlds, all of our coverage will only be available stateside.

  3. Hi Queen Elizabeth, it looks like it has been updated in that the US does plan to cover live feeds of each of the WAG qualifying sessions that has a major team to focus on, so this includes the first session with Russia! For anyone not stateside that knows how to use a different IP to get access I hope everyone gets to watch and that the info they provided is correct! fingers crossed =)

  4. Feed geoblocking by USA Gymnastics is a real disgrace. Could they explain how that would hurt anybody's business if they authorised gymnastics videos all around the world ?
    This is so stupid...

    1. This won't be USA Gymnastics' decision. Whoever assigns broadcast rights (be it the FIG, the local organising committee or whoever) will not want to give away exclusive worldwide streaming rights in case other bodies or institutions come forward, wanting to transmit in ither territories. It is a simple matter of money making.

I share your sense of frustration, however, that these broadcasts are nit made available to us legitimately, worldwide. As a ling time fan I would be happy to pay the FIG a modest subscription to secure access to online streaming of podium training, quals, and World Cup competitions that are nit covered in my territory. Surely such an arrangement can't be far off?

Valentina Rodionenko on Alexandrov's dismissal - Lupita translates

76 year old Valentina Rodionenko.  Picture courtesy of the RGF . Read below Lupita's translation of what Valentina Rodionenko had to say yesterday evening about the current staff changes at Russian Gymnastics, from Sovietski Sport . Valentina Rodionenko : Alexandrov stays as coach to Mustafina. Therefore, he is not allowed to be a national coach! Head coach Valentina Rodionenko commented on Alexander Alexandrov’s dismissal specially for “Sovietski Sport”.   - Alexandrov hasn’t been fired. You don’t need to make up things like that. We have been assigning the duties. When we dismissed Leonid Arkaev, it was decided that the team’s coach doesn’t have the right to be a personal coach at the same time. Alexander Sergueievich combined both functions, but it was against the rule. Now we have eliminated this. - In an interview with “Sovietski Sport”, Alexander Alexandrovich said that he had been blamed for working poorly. Do you personally think that he d...

Review of Russian WAG at the 2014 World Championships

The Russians during a team talk in training for the World Championships.  Courtesy RGF Bronze all the way for Russia then.  Beyond the euphoria and surprise of this morning's competition there doesn't really seem to be much to write home about. I am delighted for Aliya personally that the efforts she has made to help the team have provided her with some tangible result, but the principal feeling at the end of the competition is that of relief.  As Vaitsekhovskaya said in her article last week, there were no moments of shock and awe from the Russians, and that's what will be needed if they are to compete for gold medals in Rio (translation available here ). Let's consider a timeline of the competition : before, during and after. BEFORE The promise of a return to the Worlds stage by Viktoria Komova gave Russia a feeling of optimism pre-Russia Cup.  However, Viktoria's performance at this important competition gave little reason for celebra...

Elena Produnova - interview

The gymnastics group at VK.com has published an interview with 2000 Olympian, Elena Produnova.  Thanks for their permission to provide an edit of it here. People will remember Elena in particular for two reasons: her original vault that no one else has been able to emulate; and her own special brand of powerful  acrobatics, energetic temperament and musical flow, a heady mixture that today's gymnasts find impossible to match. Recently there have been some photographs of Elena working in a gym.  Although she has always said that she wouldn't have a coaching career, it seems that now she is a coach at a gym in Nalchik,  a town in the very south of the Russian Federation, in the foothills of the Caucasian mountains, in the republic of Kabardino-Balkaria.   The first question, tell us how you ended up in Nalchik? - Nalchik came up at the right time, in terms of my life circumstances.  Through my previous work I had a very good friend - head of the sports depart...
