Russian Championships 2026 Performance Analysis

Part 1: Women’s Vault – Power, Precision and Consistency

The women’s vault final at the 2026 Russian Championships showcased one of the deepest fields of the competition. While Alexandra Anufriyeva claimed the national title, the results also highlighted the continuing strength of Krasnodar Krai and Moscow, both of which placed multiple gymnasts among the championship’s leading performers. Execution scores were generally high, suggesting that clean landings and technical precision proved just as important as difficulty in determining the final standings.

Performance Spotlight

Alexandra Ivanovna Anufriyeva

Although still one of the younger competitors in the field, Alexandra Anufriyeva produced two controlled vaults to secure the national title. Her victory was built on a combination of high difficulty and dependable execution rather than relying on one exceptional vault. Matching the championship’s highest difficulty value while maintaining consistently strong execution enabled her to finish more than three tenths of a point clear of the silver medallist.

What We Learned

The statistics point to an encouraging level of depth in Russian women’s vaulting. Five gymnasts performed vaults with a start value of 5.0 or higher, while execution scores above 8.8 were achieved repeatedly across the championship, particularly during the team competition. That combination of difficulty and execution suggests that the event remains one of Russia’s strongest disciplines domestically. At the same time, the narrow margins between the leading gymnasts indicate that execution continues to be decisive when athletes perform vaults of comparable difficulty.

Melnikova to stand as Deputy for Voronezh

‘I was born and raised in Voronezh, my sports career began here and it was Voronezh that I always represented at international competitions. Who really won the WAG All Around?

You will find a link to the FIG's newly published book of results at the Olympic Games here .  This year, they have broken down the judge's execution scores so you can see exactly how each judge evaluated the gymnasts' performances.  It makes for interesting reading - if only I had more time to analyse each judge's marking.  A skim reading already highlights multiple inconsistencies in individual judges' marks and makes you wonder why they bother with the jury at all. I have taken the time to look at the reference judges' scores for the top four in the women's all around.  The FIG explains here what their role is, and how they are selected.  I even used my calculator, which is a risky thing in my hands.  My, how I wish we could have seen a similar document for the Tokyo World Championships. I wonder if anyone can explain how, if the FIG's Code of Points is so objective and fair, it is possible to come up with two different results using two differ...
