Tatiana Nabiyeva dominates first day of Russia Cup

The good news is that Tatiana Nabiyeva has won the all around competition today at the Russia Cup with a total of 56.026, ahead of Alla Sosnitskaya and Anna Pavlova. Full results are provided below.  Please beware : the apparatus qualifying scores do not appear in qualifying order by the scores. I am presenting them here in the same order as they appear on the Russian language score sheets; perhaps these are the working orders for EF on Tuesday and Wednesday.  As a brief digest of this presentation, the top three on each apparatus are : Vault - Paseka, Sosnitskaya, Pavlova; Uneven Bars - Nabiyeva, Sosnitskaya, Paseka; Beam - Rodionova, Kramarenko, Nabiyeva; Floor - Sosnitskaya,  Paseka, Pavlova.

The bad news is that neither Anastasia Grishina nor Viktoria Komova competed here.  There is further information on Viktoria Komova, who is suffering from a nasty bout of gastro enteritis, but will still be eligible to qualify for Worlds via the various internal competitions on the Russian team.  Unofficially, it seems that Grishina is in the same position.  If you are a regular reader of this blog you will know that team leaders Aliya Mustafina and Ksenia Afanasyeva were not required to compete here, to allow them to concentrate on their preparations for Worlds and in view of their recent participation in both Europeans and the Universiade.

Big congratulations to Tanya!!! Maladyets!!  What an amazing comeback ... many, many fans are rooting for you.

Thanks to Ksenia Semenova and the Gymnastics page on VK.com for this information.

  1. Poor Vika, is she just like the unluckiest kid? She's had injury after injury and now this. No bueno. But definitely, congrats to Tatiana. :)

  2. Where is Anna Dementyeva? Is she injured? I had expected her to possibly contend for a spot on the worlds team primarily for her beautiful balance beam routine.

    1. Dementyeva seems to have taken herself out of contention for these Worlds. I have heard rumours that she is considering retirement.

    2. Oh noooooo!!!!!!!! Poor Demy! I feel so bad that she's been pushed out of the Russian lineup for the last couple years and thought that with more consistency on beam and floor she could finally have a chance to prove herself again on a big worlds stage this year. I guess that with Komova and Mustafina not showing signs of retiring soon and Kharenkova (a strong beam worker) becoming a senior next year, she figures that her abilities are no longer needed. This is so unfortunate to hear as her performances are always a joy to watch. Please don't give up Demy!!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. Nastia went home to recover from a back injury. She wants to try for the national team when she has recovered her fitness, but she has grown a lot.

Russia Cup - the road to Nanning!

The Russian MAG and WAG teams take their preparation for World Championships in Nanning one step further this week, as key players compete in the annual Russia Cup in Penza.  There will be team, all around and event finals. The WAG team Last year the gymnasts were rather depleted and suffering the effects of injury; this year the national squad is still short of some of its top members, but has greater diversity and experience up and coming into the ranks, so it will be an interesting time.  Last year saw St Petersburg gymnast and fan favourite Tatiana Nabiyeva lead the all around, ahead of Alla Sosnitskaya, Anna Pavlova, Anna Rodionova, Ekaterina Kramarenko and Polina Fyodorova.  With the individual-only World Championships up coming in Antwerp, I remember writing that Russia might well decide to send a team of only three gymnasts, such was the paucity of available talent.  The final reckoning saw Russia fare a little better than this, although performance lacked depth and re
