Melnikova wants to dance to Rihanna

A fabulous short interview via VK.com.  Google translates.

🎵 "End of the year to Rihanna? Possibly!": Angelina Melnikova on plans to update the program

Angelina, when did you start training this year?

🎙 "I started training in January."

What is your current training regimen? How often do you come to the Ozero Krugloe base?

🎙 "We have training camps every month at the base, so I train with the national team."

Have you already started preparing for the Russian Cup?

🎙 "I am currently in recovery mode and am gradually moving to preparatory mode as part of my preparation for the Russian Cup, which will take place in April in Novosibirsk."

Have you already managed to adjust your combinations to the new rules?

🎙 "As for the new rules: practically nothing has changed for us, so I didn't have to change my programs. However, there is an interesting innovation on the vault. Girls who perform jumps of different structures will be awarded a 0.2 point bonus. Accordingly, this gives a small advantage."

Should viewers expect new floor exercises? If so, tell us about the music and the content? Where did you get your inspiration from?

🎙 "To be honest, I haven't even thought about it yet, because by the end of last year I had already prepared new floor exercises to a 90s disco. I plan to perform with them for at least this year. And maybe when I get tired of the current program - closer to the end of the year or next year - I would think about something new. I would really like to do floor exercises to Rihanna, because I really like her. But here it is important to understand what music she has that would be suitable for the gymnastics carpet.

As for the current floor exercises, the idea came to me completely spontaneously. I just wanted something as unusual as possible, and at one point I thought: why not make a program for a 90s disco? This is bright, dynamic music that is great for performances."

How happy we were when we could share with such stars as Boginskaya, Scherbo, and Ivankov,...

We are satisfied - Aliya Mustafina

'We were a new team, all the girls are young, and it's their first time in such a serious competition.  I think today we performed to the best of our ability.  Yes, we have had two falls today - on the uneven bars and balance beam.' 'The young girls failed  psychologically, but  the first time you compete on the senior podium - it's not very easy.  No  one is sad.  I  am very pleased with such a performance.  Everything  was fair enough, maybe not everywhere and in all things, but overall it was quite as expected, both our rivals, and the judging.' 'I began to experience more pain in the ankle - continued Aliya Mustafina. - To do the dismounts I had to muster all my strength and clench my teeth.  ...

Mustafina Interview 2 of 2 : 'I will only perform under the Russian flag'

Argumentyi i Fakti interview with Aliya Mustafina Translated by Marina Vulis ‘I have no fear’, says Aliya Mustafina.   ‘My father [Farhat Mustafin, the bronze medallist in Greco-Roman wrestling at the 1976 Olympics] took me to my first gymnastics class.   In his opinion children need to do sports, and he saw gymnastics as useful for my general development.   He had no goals – just to let us practice.’ It did not end with ‘just practice’ – she became the World Champion at 16, but then had an ACL injury the next year (2011) at the Europeans.   Even just returning to gymnastics is a feat; then she came back to win four medals at the 2012 Olympics. Aliya Mustafina – That injury.   I do not know why I was ashamed – so many people were watching me and I could not even walk.   My parents!   They saw everything on TV (the coach had to carry her from the podium).   Of course I was aware that anything could happen in gymnastics, but I di...
