Vote for Olympic bars champion, 
Aliya Mustafina, as leader of Russia's team VTB!!!

Aliya was part of Russia's first gold medal winning gymnastics team ever in 2010, becoming all around champion in the same year, and has now won Russia's first gold medal in Olympic gymnastics since the year 2000.

Aliya, MALADYETS!!!!

    Yay for Aliya! I missed it :( ws too nervous to go watch it. Hopefully will see it later on.

    Congrats to Denis again he was really close to Gold in the vault. Congrats to Paseka for her bronze yesterday! forgot to say that.

    I'm very content for Musty ... I wish Komova were there on the podium too, I was in pain the see her out like that sigh ... hope she makes it on Beam ... Go Russia

    What a great performance by Mustafina. What a great event final today. Vault was a bit of a mess from everyone yesterday but bars was a great fight from several of the girls and Mustafina's routine was flawless. She deserved gold today!

    So happy for Mustafina, so devastated for Komova, so not impressed by Douglas' extremely slanted piked Tkatchev.

    Also, slightly puzzled as to why Mustafina was wearing the same leo from team qualifications when Komova had a beautiful new one?

      I was more puzzled with fact that, during the Floor finals, Aliya come into the event with red uniform and left it with the white one. did she pack both?! 0-0

    This Gold Medal made my olympics by far...Mustafina has always been my fav gymnast ..she deserves it :-D

    I think you'll appreciate this:

    From ALL of the non-swimmer athletes at these Olympics, Tsarina Aliya is the most decorated, with an unmatched 4 medal count. And I don't think they'll get her on the next days.

    She won medals in every event she competed in, team, AA, bars and floor. If she had gone for the vault final as it turned out she could have done very well. Imagine what she would have done at full fitness.. Her confidence is just coming back too.

I did my routine fairly well without serious error. On beam I didn't have the start value but I received the highest execution score.  We will try to fix that before the World Championships. Considering the problems I had with my ankle, I think I performed to the optimum at the moment.  I did everything I could. I'm not  the least bit sorry that I performed here -  Very glad that I could help the team. I think my presence made things easier for the girls.   It is very difficult to compete at such serious senior competitions for the first time.  Of course they were very worried.   But I'm sure that with time they will learn to cope easily with their nerves (smiles).

Remembering last summer - Nelli Kim, her judges and Viktoria Komova

In view of Nelli Kim's recent interview , Lupita and I thought it timely to revisit the performance of some of the WTC President's judges over past competitions ... this article from 27th August 2012 is reposted here, as a reminder. You will find a link to the FIG's newly published book of results at the Olympic Games here .  This year, they have broken down the judge's execution scores so you can see exactly how each judge evaluated the gymnasts' performances.  It makes for interesting reading - if only I had more time to analyse each judge's marking.  A skim reading already highlights multiple inconsistencies in individual judges' marks and makes you wonder why they bother with the jury at all. Does Komova need gymnastics?

Komova - a prodigious talent for performance I have been pondering the nature of gymnastics talent recently, while viewing some videos of 1992 competitions on YouTube - you can find links to them if you like, by visiting RRG's Facebook page.
