Nagorny withdraws from BRICS AA

 From Match TV:

Olympic champion in artistic gymnastics Nikita Nagorny has withdrawn from the individual all-around at the BRICS Games in Kazan.

Earlier, Nagorny announced on his Telegram channel that he had decided not to continue competing in the individual all-around due to an injury and would compete in the qualification only in individual events.

šŸ’¬ Life is already hinting to me that itā€™s time to hang up the pads (laughs). In fact, I was well prepared. I tore a blister on the first element, I wanted to jump off while performing the elements, but this is an international competition, you canā€™t do that, Nagorny said on Match TV.

šŸ’Ŗ Today I lost, I admit, you need to be able to lose. I know how to do it. Perhaps a gold medal in the BRICS Games in the all-around would have given me a reason to end my career, but now I will stay until the Friendship Games. I hope I will have two more opportunities to please the fans. Now I will try to prove myself in the vault and floor exercises. I hope I can do well and get to the final,ā€ Nagorny said on Match TV.

Zlata Osokina, 16, to compete as AIN in forthcoming World Cup

Interview with coach Marina Styazhkina from  https://www.fontanka.ru/2025/03/10/75203060/ Google translate 16-year-old Zlata Osokina from Gatchina was among 12 Russian gymnasts admitted to international competitions. What does this mean for the athlete, why do coaches not monitor their charges' social networks, and is it really possible to raise a national team-level gymnast in Russia without investing a ruble? Fontanka's sports department spoke with Zlata's coach Marina Styazhkina about this and more. ā€” How did you receive the news about Zlata receiving neutral status? ā€” We were very happy, because she is now in the main team preparing for the World Cup stage, which will begin on April 8 in Croatia, and then straight to Qatar, for the next stage. ā€” How is the procedure for obtaining neutral status going now? ā€” In December, we signed the papers, filled out the questionnaires, then they were checked for two months. My application is still under consideration, I also submitte...

Watanabe campaigns for IOC President role in Russia

Sport is the low hanging fruit of world politics. The IOC ban on Russian athletes has kept Russian soft influence to a minimum over past years. I understand the emotion.    For example, how could Nagorny (a Russian World and Olympic champion) compete alongside Ukrainian rivals when he has openly endorsed the war, and even encouraged his Russian team mates to join up and take part in the military action? In this video  FIG President Watanabe is welcomed to Round Lake, Russiaā€™s national training centre for gymnastics, by Russian head coach Andrei Rodionenko and the aforementioned Nikita Nagorny.    Rodionenko is a long-serving member of the international gymnastics community.    He has been head coach of Soviet, Australian, Canadian and, now, the Russian teams. Watanabe is campaigning for votes in his quest to be voted IOC President.    Thatā€™s like the Prime Minister of the UK putting himself forward as Head of NATO - itā€™s a big step.  ...

Alexei Nemov - last of the Soviets, first of the Russians

I-g.tv has recently been updated with some stories from the diving world as well as gymnastics, including a commentary from Vladimir Zaglada on the gymnastics contribution of 2000 Olympic Champion Alexei Nemov.  This is soon to be supplemented by a video montage of Alexei's amazing work on the high bar. There is also a dual (Russian/English) language version of a profile of Alexei : Alexei Nemov ā€“ last of the Soviets, first of the Russians Writing a profile of 2000 Olympic Champion Alexei Nemov has not been easy.   There is something so completely intangible about Nemovā€™s gymnastics, something that defies simple description.  The beauty of his work goes beyond line, technique or acrobatics.  There is a softness that transcends the mere physical. At first, I wanted to write about Alexeiā€™s heroic qualities, of how he reminds me of Detiatin, Tkachev and Mogilnyi.  Mentioning Nemovā€™s place in the role of honour of Soviet gymnastics seemed to be t...
